Feed your skin - tips on healthy, nutritious, vitamin and mineral rich skin food

By feeding your skin with natural holistic skin food, you will allow your skin to radiate its natural beauty.

Often skin is hidden behind a mask of chemical additives and preservatives, leaching the skin of its natural oils and creating a dull, lifeless complexion.

We feel so much better when our skin looks radiant and feels smooth, supple and healthy. People with healthy, happy skin seem to glow, both inside and out!

And the simpler the better. With simple, natural skin care, the motto 'less is more' is particularly suitable. Less unnecessary chemical and paraben filled products that is. Less artificial soaps and detergents leaching your skin of its natural oils and less creams and lotions clogging up your pores and being absorbed into your blood stream.

Just like the food you put into your body, skin food is best at its purest and most natural.

And for the skin care we do use, the simpler the better - natural, pure skin care. Holistic, natural, herbal products as fresh as they come - perfect skin food.

Make them yourself if you like - check out the natural skin care recipes page for some ideas to get you started. Considering that what we put onto our skin goes directly into our body, it is worth taking the time to check what is actually in our skin care products.

Nutrients contained in vitamin-rich oils such as hemp oil and avocado oil are absorbed though our skin into our body (check out the Skin Care Ingredients page to find out more about what these do for your skin).

Various edible food stuffs are great skin food too, and provide valuable skin nutrition. Foods such as avocadoes and almonds. Oats and cucumbers. And drinks like tea, both green tea and black tea, which are rich in anti-oxidants. These foods boost our skin's natural defences, as well as being great when actually used on the skin!

Vitamins for the skin are just as essential as the vitamins we consume through what we eat. And of course a healthy diet is integral to having healthy skin. And of course a healthy diet is integral to having healthy skin. So eat some and make some into the freshest most natural skin care there is - doubly healthy!

If we eat lots of healthy fruit and veggies, whole grains and natural food stuffs, our skin will have the tools it needs to cleanse itself and radiate healthy, happy glow.

If, however, we live off take-aways, crisps, chocolates and lots of processed, fatty foods our skin is going to reflect this. It will try to get the toxins out of the body in any way it can - which is usually through our pores - and it just won't have what it needs to be healthy. This results in spots, oily skin, dry patches, a dull, lifeless complexion and other more serious skin conditions.

Of course, diet isn't everything and we need regular excercise too to keep our whole body - skin included (we are working holistically here) - healthy. Luckily for lazy people like me, getting out of breath at least once a day is said to be enough to keep the body healthy.

Getting out of breath - properly out of breath, so we break into a sweat - gets the blood pumping round the whole body, replenishing our musces and also increasing blood flow to the brain, so helping keep our mind in tip-top shape too.

Such light excercise might not make us super-svelt, but at least we can rest easy in the knowledge that our bodies are healthy and our skin will reflect this too. Try running up and down the stairs ten times each day - that should do the trick (not too fast though)!
